PHASE TWO
Wednesday, April 22, 2009 (Oakville ON) – The trees of Downtown Oakville are getting a makeover this year that will make Lakeshore Road both brighter and more 'green'. To mark Phase II of the 'Do it GREEN Downtown' program, the Downtown Oakville BIA is converting all the incandescent twinkle lights on Lakeshore Road East to energy-saving LED.
LED-technology uses 80 per-cent less energy than regular incandescent lights, lowering energy costs and decreasing the Downtown’s hydro-related carbon footprint.
Chair Joe Giraldi said, "We are grateful for the incredible support received by our sponsors and the downtown businesses that are funding this project 100% and encourage the downtown community to become more involved in being conscious of what we are doing or not doing to the planet."
Meanwhile, Downtown Oakville is committed to going green every day and to celebrate our efforts this Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, they're having an Earth Party in Towne Square. Environmental Downtown Oakville partners will be on-site for the party which includes a number of great displays and giveaways.
The Downtown Oakville BIA thanks the 450 businesses in Downtown Oakville and its Do it GREEN sponsors smart Centre, Oakville Hydro and the Town of Oakville.
