With its romantic ambiance and “love at first sight” tagline, it’s only fitting that the Ricarda’s restaurant concept was inspired by a real life love story – that of founder, Hendrik, and his wife, Ricarda, and their shared love of food, travel and entertaining.
The flagship location opened in Toronto in July 2016. Following that location’s success, the team sought to open a second restaurant in a smaller, more intimate community and was immediately attracted to Downtown Oakville’s European vibe.
“We journeyed to many communities outside of the big city and found the Town of Oakville had a very special charm,” says Chris Glaessel, Ricarda’s Chief Operating Officer. “It reminds us of the historical towns of Europe, where its residents know and appreciate each other, and where ideas sprout and decisions are made in social settings.”
The Oakville location opened in March 2018 and has since become a destination for Oakville foodies looking for a taste of the Mediterranean. Located at the corner of Lakeshore and Reynolds, the restaurant boasts a stylish interior, an impressive wine and cocktail menu, and a large outdoor patio that was recently recognized as one of the best in Oakville.
The patio is also a popular meeting point for the GTA cycling community on weekends after 9am, featuring a Gran Fondo and a K.O.M. (King Of the Mountain) breakfast set to refuel during or after a workout.
In addition to its regular lunch, dinner and tapas menus, Ricarda’s is becoming a top breakfast spot thanks to its popular Sunday jazz brunch. For $32.99, guests can enjoy live jazz music and breakfast classics served at live food stations, as well as a selection of a la carte dishes. For those with little ones in tow, the restaurant’s kid zone offers a space for children to entertain themselves while the adults enjoy the food and music, making for a perfect family outing.
The restaurant also specializes in celebrations, offering a discount equivalent to a guest’s age during their birthday week. “So, if you turn 65 years old, you’ll receive a discount of 65 per cent,” says Glaessel. “And, if you turn 103 years old, we give you three per cent cash back – after all, you’ve earned it!”
It’s all part of the family culture that the brand prides itself on. Glaessel describes the Ricarda’s team as one large family that works together to provide the best food and service to guests. And, the Oakville community is noticing. “We love many things about Oakville, however, most of all we love that we’ve been accepted into this wonderful community that appreciates our culinary vision of great homemade food, personalized service and true European hospitality from the heart.”
