For anyone who played with dolls as a child – or for those who just enjoy being pampered – you’ll love Dollface Beauty Bar, a luxury lash bar located in the heart of Downtown Oakville. With its pink walls and Victorian-inspired décor, the feminine space will make you feel like you’re in a life-sized dollhouse – the perfect escape from your day-to-day life.
That’s exactly the experience owner Sara Green set out to create when she developed the concept. “I wanted clients to have a place they could come to where they felt they were being taken care of; where they could relieve their stress from the day just by laying in our of lash beds.”
She jokingly refers to the service as a ‘lash nap’ because clients often feel so relaxed, they fall asleep. “You wake up and you feel like 10 years have just been shaved off. You leave feeling lighter than you did when you came in.”
Not only that, you’re also likely to turn heads with a set of lush lashes that enhance the eyes. “It’s a real confidence booster,” she says of the service. “All women are beautiful, I just want to help them to enhance what they already have.”
Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, Sara’s first foray into business ownership was as the owner of a hair salon. A hairstylist and makeup artist at the time, she became certified in lash extensions in 2016 and noticed a void in the beauty industry – there weren’t many salons that specialized exclusively in lash extensions. Seeking to fill that gap, she opened Dollface’s first location in Burlington in 2017.
The inspiration for the name came from her partner, Jay, who spontaneously called her ‘dollface’ one day. “The way it came out, it was really sweet. It embodied everything that made me feel feminine,” Sara recalls. “It’s the same feeling I want women to feel when they walk in and when they leave; the feeling of being loved.”
She opened a second location on Reynolds Street in 2019. “It’s a real destination,” she says of Downtown Oakville. “It’s a place to hang out, eat, shop, and get your services. I don’t think there’s anywhere else I would want to go.” Born in the Bahamas, she’s also always been drawn to the water. “Being able to walk to the lake was important.”
She says the community has been nothing but welcoming since she opened last year. “Being a woman of colour in this industry, it never stopped me from jumping in and catering to a demographic that might not normally come to get services from me, but I feel like there’s been this huge sense of welcome among the other business owners and the community in Oakville.”
After a temporary closure due to COVID-19, Dollface reopened its Oakville location when Ontario entered Stage 3 of the province’s reopening plan in July.
