This year has been one of major change for Lina Waled. In June, the Toronto hairstylist relocated to Downtown Oakville, setting up shop inside Crown + Beauty, a boutique salon located on the second floor of 292 Lakeshore Road East.
“I wanted more space,” she says of her decision to move. “I love the nature out here and everything has worked out beautifully for me since I moved in June. The community is great, the people are nice, and I get tons of space!”
This isn’t the first time she’s pivoted. Lina was a makeup artist for nearly 10 years when she decided to transition into hairstyling. “I found it fulfilled me deeper than makeup artistry,” she says. “I get to have great friendships, use my creativity in a new way, and have a flexible schedule.”
As a stylist, she specializes in short, textured haircuts (“pixie cuts or textured bobs are my jam!”) and also stays on top of the latest trends. “The mullet is back and its little cousin the shag. I’m living for any version of long, choppy layers and a voluminous crown with cool bangs.”
Beyond just making her clients look their best, Lina’s favourite part of the job is the relationships she gets to build with her clients. “I love the human connection, the friendships, and the freedom to create a vision.”
