Friday Five: Oktoberfest Edition

Oktoberfest kicks off in Munich this weekend but you don’t need to fly to Germany to celebrate. Here are five Downtown Oakville restaurants where you can raise a glass to everyone’s favourite fall festival.

Bru Restaurant– 142 Lakeshore Road East
Visit Oakville just awarded Bru the top spot in its Talk of the Town Best Craft Beer Awards thanks to its impressive selection of craft beers from over 15 Ontario breweries and premium imports.

Pictured above are Collective Arts Hazy State, Bobcaygeon Dockside Red Ale, Two Roads Passion Fruit Gose, and Collective Arts Apple & Cherry Cider.

To sample their brews and menu items, join them for their Harvest Dinner event on October 6, where Bru’s chefs will be pairing up with Muskoka Brewery and Wave Maker Brewery to bring you a fun evening of beer and food. Tickets are $65, with a portion of proceeds going to the local food bank. Pop by Bru to get your tickets.

Paradiso – 125 Lakeshore Road East
Paradiso is well known for its award-winning Mediterranean menu but did you know they also offer craft beer? Coming in at #3 on Visit Oakville’s list, Paradiso has partnered up with breweries like Side Launch and Beau’s to offer premium beer in addition to their extensive wine and cocktail list. On October 18, they’ll be teaming up with Furnace Room Brewery for a 4-course pairing meal ($75 +HST and gratuities). Reserve your spot by calling 905-338-1594.

The King’s Arms – 323 Church Street
Located in a historic building that once belonged to one of Oakville’s first settlers, The King’s Arms is a local favourite for pub food and late night drinks. Coming in at #4 on Visit Oakville’s list, their beer menu includes local and imported beers and ciders from breweries like Brickworks, Beau’s, Mill St. and Goose Island.

Next Thursday, September 26, they’re hosting their first Beer Tasting Event in partnership with Flying Monkeys brewery. Sample some of Flying Monkeys’ tastiest beers perfectly paired with some of The King’s Arms signature dishes. Tickets are $35 (plus tax and tip). Call 905-845-1010 or e-mail kingsarmsoakville@yahoo.ca to reserve your table.

151 Social – 151 Lakeshore Road East
With its constantly changing chalkboard menu, Italian tapas, signature cocktails and craft beer offerings, it’s easy to see why 151 Social has quickly become a late-night hot spot since opening last year. Some of the beers they offer include Krombacher, Collective Arts and Oakville’s own Cameron’s, earning them the fifth spot on Visit Oakville’s list.

The Queen’s Head 118 Dunn Street
No list of Downtown Oakville watering holes would be complete without mention of The Queen’s Head. Since 1990, this traditional English tavern has been serving up pub fare and a large selection of imported and local draft beer taps. Surrounded by their traditional British décor and artifacts, you’ll instantly be transported to the British countryside.
