Welcome to the Neighbourhood: Elena Gliosca, LivePixels Photography

Whether you’re looking to upgrade your professional image with a polished new headshot, or indulge your childhood dream of becoming a supermodel, Downtown Oakville’s newest photography studio, LivePixels Photography, can help.

Photographer and owner Elena Gliosca specializes in contemporary glamour and family portraits, maternity, motherhood and boudoir shoots, and personal branding.

Her passion for photography began at a young age. “I grew up in a dark room next to my dad,” she says, recalling her father’s avid photography hobby.

In school, she studied history but continued to pursue photography as a hobby. Over time, she was able to turn her hobby into a career as a wedding photographer. In 2008, she opened LivePixels Photography in Toronto, initially focusing on wedding photography. “I loved it because you’re sharing such a happy occasion with couples who trust you not to miss anything,” she says. It also gave her experience with a variety of genres like editorial, fashion and photojournalism.

Her favourite aspect of wedding photography, however, was portraiture and she soon realized there weren’t many portrait photographers on the market. Thus came the inspiration to transform LivePixels into a portraiture studio in 2015. “I wanted to do something different, where clients could experience their very own Vanity Fair photo shoot.”

During a shoot, clients are given the full supermodel treatment, with hair and makeup, mimosas and a selection of wardrobe options to choose from, including gowns made from pure silk. One of her signature shots features a woman surrounded by a stream of silk that appears to be in motion, an effect created by her assisting tossing the fabric in the air as Elena shoots.

“Having my pictures taken by Elena was a true privilege,” reads a testimonial from Gregoriane Minot of Real Housewives of Toronto fame. “Her portraits are more than pictures – they render elegance, movement and femininity.”

At the end of a shoot, clients come away with a selection of frame-ready prints in an elegant box made from Italian leather. “In our digital world, many people no longer have physical portraits,” says Elena, explaining the importance of offering a physical takeaway for clients.

In addition to a cherished keepsake, a photo session gives women the chance to get reacquainted with their feminine side. Says Elena: “Once we have families, we no longer exist as women; we become ‘mom.’”

Elena has three young children of her own and always dreamed of moving her studio closer to her home in Oakville. When the perfect location opened up on the second floor of 334 Lakeshore Road East – a bright, airy space with high ceilings and large, floor-to-ceiling windows – she jumped at the chance to relocate.

Her Oakville studio opened this past August and she says many of her Toronto clients are excited about the move. “They see Oakville as a destination on its own,” she says, adding that she always encourages them to check out the local stores and restaurants while they’re here.
